Hope everyone out there enjoyed Mother's Day. I know I was happy to be back with the fam. My daughter and I got up early and made cinnamon rolls and Quiche Lorraine from scratch. They turned out pretty good (especially the cinnamon rolls). Then my wife and I had a 5 mile power walk (to burn of the previously mentioned CRs). Finally, we ended the day with our first major BBQ of the year, with steak and fresh roasted corn on the cob. (We probably now need a 10 mile power walk).
The way the portfolio is performing of late, we could definitely afford the steaks. This is known as the 'wealth effect", when the markets go up, we all feel wealthier.
For the year, now up 16.8%. I have to say that at the start of the year, I was very worried about the fiscal cliff. But we just seem to keep chugging along. I am still about 26% in cash, I expect I will stay in that general zip code. It is important to always have cash on hand.
Dividend Portfolio
This portfolio was really lifted this week by the explosive move by TC-PT (now up 29% for me, but the final shares I bought on April 22nd are up 42%!).. I was good to keep buying it on the way down a couple weeks ago, but in hindsight, I should have bought even more.

As this is the MFI Diary, it makes me feel very good to see the approach working so far (and I am following the rules explicitly). All four tranches combined are ahead by 2 points. Even the slacker August 15th portfolio picked up some serious steam on Friday as DLB was up 3.9% on good earnings (Dolby Laboratories Reports Second Quarter Fiscal 2013 Financial Results) and KFY was up 3.5%.
