Quick update this morning. Then off for a family vacation. It has been a wild summer, this weekend is the first weekend since school ended in June, that our entire family will be together!
I am actually looking forward to a driving summer vacation. It should take us 3+ hours to get there. I have downloaded three new books on my Kindle, I will take my laptop to blog occasionally and otherwise I plan to sit in an Adirondack chair and watch life go by.
I had a much needed bounce back week in the market following four straight down weeks. It is a good thing I had an up week as the reverse of the wealth effect would have made me enjoy Cape Cod less. For the week I was up 2.8%. That is my 3rd best week of the year - which actually surprises me as it didn't feel THAT great.
MFI Tranches
Here are my 4 open MFI tranches. Obviously, the August 15th tranche has a week to go.

You can see the May tranche is still struggling a bit. Part of that is me - in hindsight RCII was not exactly a savvy pick and a borderline MFI stock (I currently rank them #990, there must have been some error in their financials or my worksheet that identified them in May). But part of it is that MFI in total is struggling. Here are the 4 most recent tracking portfolios:

There have been some spectacular blow-ups in MFI world of late (ESI and NUS for examples). The table below shows my MFI Index and how the 50 stocks have fared for the year and since May 6th:

Actually up 2.5%, though a lot of that is GTIV (oh that I would have bought them!).
For kicks, I did start at the beginning of August what potentially a new August MFI tranche would have been. It has done pretty well, but sadly is hypothetical.

Discretionary Portfolio
People who read my blog yesterday will recall I did have an "aha!" moment regarding this portfolio yesterday. While the numbers still look good in total, my 2014 picks have been (shall we say) less than stellar. I have gotten too much into just trading here as opposed to investing (which is really my strength). So my plan this week is to sell this portfolio down a bit and increase my August MFI tranche stake by 20 to 25%. As a note, I will continue to create my MFI tables that I listed above, as if my MFI MFI was unchanging - otherwise the math starts getting hairy. But I will occasionally publish my actual YTD MFI results, which will take into account the additions. I have actually been doing this for the past year - I did add to three of the past four tranches recently - but the percentage increases were much smaller than 20 to 25% add. Does this make sense or am I rambling?

I think TTOO and TC are the most likely candidates to be sold to raise $ for MFI. That will actually overshoot the mark needed a bit.
Dividend Portfolio
This portfolio has been doing better of late. TGONF really rallied. GPS spiked up the other day. TNH is a new holding and is off to a nice start.

2014 Gain | 4.9% |
A gain of 4.9% for the year is actually ok. Pretty much on par with the R3K. Again, the purpose of this portfolio is to produce income, and it is really starting to do a great job. Here is a table showing expected annual dividends (with my multiplier):
Stock | Shares | Ann Dividend / Share | Yield | Projected Dividend | Worth |
AOD | 14,186 | 0.68 | 7.9% | 9,618 | 121,577 |

Total | 7.3% | 70,469 | 967,641 |
Over $70,000! That may be a high water mark for this portfolio. The add of TNH certainly helped. I may add selectively to this portfolio as well with the shrinking of discretionary. TIME and NADL are both a little undersized and seem relatively cheap. I really could use at least one bank or insurance company on this list (though CSQ does have some of that embedded).
Here are upcoming dividends:
Stock | Shares | x Date | Div/Share | Est New Shares | Amount |
FSC | 8,395 | $ 0.083 | 71.0 | 700
NTC | 6,784 | $ 0.057 | 30.0 | 387

Actually, I will likely not get the FLR one, as they will be sold from August MFI tranche before end of August.
Wrap-Up
Well, looks like another weekend update is completed. I am going to enjoy this perfect New England Summer Saturday (hard to believe but it is under 60 this morning) and get ready for the trip. I will glance at Barron's and may make another post this weekend, but maybe not - it is summer, so I may just chill.
Have a great week everyone.
