Fix Or Repair Daily

Well, I had all sorts f trouble with my recently sold Ford Focus. I am relieved that I recently sold my FORD (different company) stock. As my loyal reader may remember, I bought FORD near the beginning of July (it was an MFI listed stock)... but I then sold it the following day for about a 5% gain. I had decided I did not want it as an MFI stock as I felt they were a one trick pony.

Good move as the graph to the right shows.

Paying Dividends

I collected another $2.00 dividend on PCU yesterday. I have actually owned that stock pre-MFI (believe it or not, from a Cramer recommendation) since October 2005. So I have now collected $9.20 per share since buying it at $54.47. Maybe it is because I am older, but I like dividend paying stocks. I like dividends for several reasons: (1) they are taxed at just 15%, so it is a way to monetize ST gains at a LT rate and (2) it shows they have a strong cash flow (important point in today's world where borrowing $$ is becoming more expensive).

PNCL just announced their earnings (Pinnacle Airlines Reports Second Quarter 2006 Financial Results). Reading through them, they seem quite good to me. They made 54 cents a share, 62 cents excluding a one time charge. They were "expected" to earn 46 cents. This is a stock trading at $5.85 so that is about a p/e of 10 just on one quarter. That is extremely cheap. If jet fuel prices drop at all, the stock should (ahem) take off. These regional carriers are really hated by WS. I suppose it is because they are largely dependent on one or two customers (NWAC in this case) to feed them business. But they do seem to make money, which sooner or later should be reflected n their stock price.

The day is fini, not a very good day for my MFI portfolio. I was extremely displeased with the market's reacion on NSS. It dropped over $2 despite what I felt were strong earnings and strong outlook. I have given up trying to understand the market.

PACR announced their earnings after the clsoing bell (Pacer International Reports 2nd Quarter 2006 Diluted Earnings Per Share of $0.38). They seemed a bit better than expected, so they'll probbaly drop $5 (what, do you think I am being cynical?).
