Wish me luck. I am involved in my first IPO ever (except for the company I work for). SFM, which is a chain of healthy food stores, like Whole Foods Market. It is not something I would usually buy, as outwardly it does look pricey to me. But they seem to have good growth opportunities and IPOs have been hot of late.
I am using this site to help me vet the IPOs (https://ipopremium.com/welcome/). I think it costs $400 a year. The next interesting thing will be to see how many shares I get assigned. I put a pretty large number in (5,000 using my multiplier - meaning $90,000 in cost at the $18 price), assuming I would get signed down. It was supposed to price between $14 and $16, so I guess that means a lot of interest.
Yesterday at first was looking like a "bad" day with missed by GNW and ACAS. But my portfolio hung in there and I only trailed the R3K by 20 basis points. I am now up 21.7% YTD versus 20% for the index. The MFI index is on fire. It is now up 32.7% as QCOR jumped over 20% yesterday and is around $65. Yes I am kicking myself for selling at $22... even though I made a quick 20%.
Options
I have never had the courage to buy options, but I did create a portfolio tracking MFI options in January. It has been wildly profitable. Of course as the index is up 32% and then you apply leverage of options, this perhaps is not surprising.
