Au Revoir Montreux

Au Revoir Montreux

As the sun literally sets on my last evening in Montreux, I wanted to share the "Splendid" view from my balcony.  Tomorrow I head up to Zurich (a 3 hour train ride) and then Friday back to the states.  It has been a working vacation, but I was able to take off enough time to appreciate the beauty here.  I took 3 hikes into the mountains and got wonderfully lost each time.  The beauty of this place is that even if you don't end up where you planned, you discover a new and wonderful place.  And I probably am the most relaxed I have been in over a decade.

Dividend Portfolio

My dividend portfolio seems to be enjoying the fresh Swiss air as well.  Since I got here (July 30th), I am up a snappy 5.4%. I think the Russell 3000 is up 1.1% and the Spiffy Fifty is up 1.6%.  Here is where my stocks currently stand (up 0.25% today with 30 minutes left until US Markets close):

HFC reported very solid numbers today (HollyFrontier 2Q profit more than doubles) at $2.39 a share (recall this stock is under $40).  It is off by a bit, I guess because one of their refineries is going to be closed slightly longer than expected.  That again is short term thinking of the market.  The longer term is that with all the oil and gas we're starting to pump in the US, and with the NIMBY attitude towards new refineries, well-run companies like HFC have a chance to keep churning out the cash and paying nice dividend checks.

Well, I am going to call it a wrap... pushing 10 pm out here.
