The Price is Right!

I thought it would be good for me to lay out the list of stocks I am considering for #30. I could pull the trigger at any time, if (as Bob Barker used to say) "the price is right"! I have decided that my best approach in MFI is to continuously have a list of 5 to 10 stocks on a watch list and then when they take a unprovoked dive, buy, buy buy! This approach has worked on my last two purchases, VPHM & BBSI.

Here are my leading candidates and their current prices (before the market opened)
BVF (14.73)
ELOS (24.00)
THO (43.11)
PRLS (2.72)
AXCA (13.69)
ALDA (16.25)
PRVB.OB (0.39)
XJT (6.90)
WNR (20.90)

Gosh, just on the names I would have to lean towards ALDA (I loved M*A*S*H) and WNR (sounds like a "winner"). Now to be a bit more serious. I think I will score each stock on five criteria:

1. Has there been insider buying or selling?
2. Does the stock have potential to continue/grow earnings?
3. Has the stock been beaten down and if so does it have hopes of recovery?
4. Anything noteworthy in latest 10Q?
5. What do I calculate the Earning Yield and ROC to be?

Quick run down on insider action for the 9 stocks:

WNR - Lots of buying!
BVF, ELOS, AXCA, XJT, PVRB- didn't see and buys or sales.
PRLS - sales, but not recent.
THO, ALDA - had sales, no buys.

More analysis to follow...

Another terrific day for my MFI portfolio. For the week I am up about 3.4%. Hey, I am now just down 1.6% overall. BBSI was the all-star, up 8.7%. That was doubly happy as BBSI is one of the stocks that I have doubled down on in my retirement account (though not counted in my MFI results).

PTSC.OB Alert! PTSC filed a statement today essentially saying that they were going to have to retate their financials (PATRIOT SCIENTIFIC CORP Files SEC form 8-K, Non-Reliance on Previous Financials, Audits or Interim Review). Now I am not a CPA, but I can read financial statements. However, it made my head hurt to try and understand what PTSC did wrong. But I do know that stocks typically crash when they have to restate earnings. I am glad that I sold my excess PTSC when they filed that the earnings would be delayed. That being said, if the stock were to drop say to 70 cents it might be a buying opportunity tomorrow.

Here is where I currently stand, movin' on up! I did find a small error in the benchmark, it is doing a bit better than I thought.
