Friday was certainly a volatile day. Down 200,up 200. I did add to my BAC warrants on the early drop. But it was a small purchase in total. I also added to my CSQ earlier in the week.
So while my stocks are going down, my investment income is going up. And I do enjoy seeing the cashola roll in.
I am now down 3.2% on the year. Not exactly stellar. But it is a marathon, not a sprint.
MFI Select
Well, it certainly didn't "feel" like a good week. But I went from $181 to $184K and expanded my lead on R3K.

That May 6th portfolio is certainly a hot mess. Not a winner in my five picks and the "best" stock is down 10%. Hard to believe DEPO was north of $30 just a blink of an eye ago. I took a look at the run off from the 5 stocks I sold in May (below):
5/6/2014 | Start | Current | Dividend | Pct Gain | R3K Gain |
AVG | $19.57 | $23.27 | $0.00 | 18.9% | 12.9% |

RCII | $28.78 | $31.77 | $0.94 | 13.7% | 12.9% |
Totals | 18.3% | 12.9% |
In aggregate, those five stacks are down 12.5%, so definitely still a struggle. I also looked at my reject list, the stocks I considered and didn't pick... they're down 18%! I think I was just screwed.

Physical & Pumpkin Pie
With fall here (Boom!) in full force (yesterday it was grey and rainy and didn't break 55) it is definitely pumpkin pie season. I will be making my first pie of the season today.
Then it was interesting. I went in for my annual physical this week. Pretty much head to toes and I was happy to hear that everything is good. Now I don't know about my gentle readers, but I never look forward to a physical. It is never as bad as I fear - the person drawing the blood has always done a good job ("you'll be feeling a slight pinch"); the prostate exam is a bit humiliating, but over fast enough and the flu shot was no biggie.
What was interesting was on my way to get my physical, I was listening to CNBC and a lady from Stanford has developed new blood tests that could set the industry on it's ear. They have two huge advantages: (1) they require much less blood (think a finger stick rather than a vein draw) and they are much cheaper (think 80% cheaper). Her company is rolling them out at Walgreens and she is the youngest female billionaire in the USA (Elizabeth Holmes). Could be a disruptor for LH and DGX.
MFI Formula
I did start a new MFI Formula tranche this week. It stumbled slightly out of the gate, but 51+ weeks to go. This approach is working reasonably well, although it also has it's hot mess tranche (June 30th).

I included the tranche that just closed for completeness.

So one can see from 1st row that this started notionally with $1 million in four tranches a year ago. It is now $1,009,170. Not exactly "to the moon", but better than R3K at $959,030. The struggle has been real, as I have said over and over.
MFI Micro
I was wise to step away from day to day trading in August. But my first MFI Micro portfolio, which thankfully I under-invested in, is off to a terrible start:
8/28/2015 | Start | Current | Dividend | Pct Gain | R3K Gain |
VNCE | $8.50 | $3.60 | $0.00 | -57.6% | -1.9% |

PERI | $2.45 | $2.08 | $0.00 | -15.1% | -1.9% |
Totals | -19.3% | -1.9% |
If I go to the tracking portfolio I started at the same time, here are other stocks under $250m in market cap:
Stock | Initial Price | End Price | Percent Change |
NATH | 33.65 | 38.34 | 13.9% |
GHM | 16.91 | 18.01 | 6.5% |

Who doesn't like a Nathan's Hot Dog?
Dividends and Warrants
Div and Warrants | Start | Current | Dividend | Pct Gain |
BAC-WTA | $6.04 | $5.55 | $0.00 | -8.1% |
AOD | $8.09 | $7.66 | $1.50 | 13.3% |
FSC | $7.06 | $6.25 | $0.41 | -5.7% |
CSQ | $9.31 | $9.40 | $1.76 | 20.0% |
NTC | $12.05 | $12.38 | $1.09 | 11.8% |
TGONF | $10.24 | $9.48 | $1.03 | 2.6% |
HIG-WT | $21.24 | $38.55 | $0.00 | 81.5% |
O | $22.41 | $46.00 | $17.46 | 183.1% |
OIBAX | $5.04 | $5.64 | $2.12 | 54.1% |
Totals | 13.2% |
As I do not track these in a s detailed a fashion as other portfolios, a little harder to see what is what.
But here is table from last week:
Div and Warrants | Start | Current | Dividend | Pct Gain |
BAC-WTA | $6.09 | $5.95 | $0.00 | -2.3% |
AOD | $8.09 | $7.75 | $1.52 | 14.5% |
FSC | $7.06 | $6.60 | $0.41 | -0.7% |
CSQ | $9.30 | $9.57 | $2.07 | 25.1% |
NTC | $12.05 | $12.34 | $1.09 | 11.5% |
TGONF | $10.24 | $9.76 | $1.03 | 5.4% |
HIG-WT | $21.24 | $38.05 | $0.00 | 79.2% |
O | $22.41 | $47.06 | $17.26 | 187.0% |
OIBAX | $5.04 | $5.63 | $2.11 | 53.7% |
Totals | 16.4% |
So you can see it was a bad week. The BAC warrants certainly took a tumble.
But keep in mind this is about income as much as "value". So here are my quarterly dividends, adjusted by a secret factor:
Note 2015 is well above 2014 thus far. I have a projection built in for 4th quarter (which was good in 2014 due to a couple special dividends such as KLAC).
So if I can keep ratcheting this up 5 to 10% per year - I am 56 - it could be a very nice stream at retirement.
