DLX has steady become a solid, solid stock for me. This was a stock that was down about 50% for me last fall and now it is up about 9%. If I had bought this without the discipline of MFI, there is no way I'd have held it through the hard times.
CHKE is now up about 20% plus probably another 4 to 5 points on dividends. Kind of an interesting concept, the company pretty much pays back all its earnings as dividends, they don't need much capital to run their business (high ROIC). So it kind of acts like a bond, but you do get potential for increasing earnings and the dividends are taxed at 15%. When I retire, I will definitely try and get a few stocks like this to supplement boring bonds.
My sidecar stocks also have had a stellar run. ASPV announced they'll have solid revenues in 4th quarter. HW was also up nicely and as noted yesterday, TRLG has been on a roll. My final sidecar stock OVTI has been dead weight.
Looking Ahead
In February I will have my first stocks to have been with me for a year.
MGLN - up 10%
ELX - up 5%
HW - down 27%
MSTR - up 29%
UST - up 54% and
PTEN - down 16%
I think what I will do is sell the winners. The 2 losers (PTEN & HW) are still on the list. So I will use the proceeds from the sale of the winners to make my holdings in PTEN & HW level with my plans for 2007. In my tracking system, I will mark all the stocks as sold, then treat HW and PTEN like newly bought stocks with the new balances with intent to hold until Feb 2008.
I will then likely have enough for 3 other stocks. It is a bit early, but I am starting to think about potential stocks to buy. On my watch list (in no particular order... ok alphabetical order) are: BRL, HLF, TTMI, THO, WCC and WSTL.
