Chinese Indigestion?Been a real slog for my portfolio in December. The Chinese stocks have been a real drag on performance since November 8th. I took a look and since then they are down 25.8% for me. That explains in a large part why my MFI portfolio is down 9.9% in that same stretch.
I did take a look to see since the start of MFI whether my over-weighting of Chinese stocks has hurt. The answer was as of today, "yes". My overall gain of 9.1% might be about 10% if I had not invested in Chinese stocks but rather invested in my non chinese average. Of course, if you had asked if the Chinese stocks had hurt in aggregate on November 8th, the answer would have been "no". So I don't think I can kick myself. Perhaps I should consider shorter time horizons on the Chinese stocks and I was definitely burned this time by buying CEU on bad news put out by shorts.
Very Interesting- MTXX - an MFI stock I owned last year that had major issues with the FDA got bought recently. They were last on the list October 16th 2009 at 5.56 and closed today at 8.35.
- CCME announced today (China MediaExpress Holdings, Inc. Announces Dividend Policy) they are going to start to pay a dividend. They were not clear on the amount, but it sounds like about 1.5% to me.
- ARO announced they don't want to be bought (Aeropostale gears up for takeover defence). Interestingly, being "hard-to-get" caused their price to spike 8.6% today.
