Beautiful Saturday morning here in New England. About 60 degrees, sun shining. I am excited about the NFL season starting. We'll see how my Cowboys do. I had to laugh at the ultimate "sour grapes". With Demarco Murray leaving, I read an article that said, he wasn't all that great and that a better back would have had 2,500 yards last year instead of the 1,800 DM had! Apparently, there were numerous 20 yard runs that should have been 50 yards runs considering the blocking. Who writes/says this stuff?
I had a decent week in the markets, up about 1%. So I am now down about 1% for the year. Not where I wanted to be, but better than the benchmarks I guess. With my "step away from the batter" posture, I have now done nothing to my portfolio except reinvest dividends and sell off some of my CSIQ (which was the plan). I don't know that this move has enhanced my returns, but moving away from trading is much more peaceful for me.
MFI Select
This portfolio continues to trudge along. It is actually up over 4% for the year, so that is pretty darned respectable. But you can see that my last two tranches are not exactly off to flying starts, though August is pretty much even with the benchmark.

You can see that I am "flat" for September and have managed to expand my lead over benchmark by about 200 basis points.
MFI Formula
My formula approach is rapidly approaching the end of it's first year. I would have to call it a success thus far. If you page up to look at my select approach after 11 months (8/1/13) it was beating the benchmark by almost 7 points. MFI formula is almost 6 points ahead. Of course that is relative. On an absolute basis, the markets have been shakier the past 11 months than the 11 months following 8/15/12.

If you look at my 4 tranches, October is slightly ahead. Hopefully it holds on until the end of September. Then the Year end tranche is spectacular, with RGR and GME being very solid. But even quiet IQNT has made a strong move to the hoop. End of March is slightly under water, but doing relatively ok. Then July 1st is a mess as VIAB has been a literal albatross.
