I started a new MFI Formula tranche last Monday. Generally, I have always started my MFI Formula tranches right at the start of a new quarter. The one exception to this was last year, when I was traveling and didn't start the tranche until July 10th.
So I decided to go back to original date, which means I will have one week where I had two tranches running at the same time. I will close the July 10th tranche at the close of day tomorrow and sell winning stocks Wednesday. I have already sold RGR and I will sell GME tomorrow. Here is the tranche with one day left:
7/1/2017 | Start | Current | Dividend | Pct Gain | R3K Gain |
CSCO | $30.98 | $42.71 | $1.24 | 41.9% | 16.3% |

So you can look the 11 closed tranches and see why it has been such a horse race with the Russell 3000 benchmark. I have won 6 and lost 5 (though that will go to 7/5 with July's closing). The SYNT (if it holds tomorrow) will be my first two bagger at +121%.
The New Tranche
As my readers know, my formula approach is just that - a formula. So here is a step by step of how I came up with new tranche (done last weekend).

Step 2 - filter out the smallest (by market cap) 17 stocks (that removes everything under 645m).
Step 3 - filter so just using stocks with a 2.4% yield (or greater). Here are remaining stocks after those two filters:
Number | Ticker | Market Cap | Price | Dividend | Yield |
1 | MO | 107,550 | 56.79 | 2.72 | 4.79% |

11 | WDC | 23,146 | 77.41 | 2.00 | 2.58% |
Step 4 - I can, at my discretion, throw out one stock. I did not throw anything out.
Step 5 - run a random number generator for 5 stocks from these 11 names. Here is what I got:
Random # | Stock |
3 | CJREF |
4 | GILD |
6 | IPG |
7 | KLAC |
9 | TUP |
CJREF and IPG are new to me. GILD, KLAC and TUP are in other tranches, that is pretty normal. CJREF had just reduced their dividend and switched from monthly dividends to quarterly, so they had really sold off - I am hopeful that is good timing for me. Here is table showing the prices I got the five stocks at and how I fared versus benchmark in first week:
7/2/2018 | Start | Current | Dividend | Pct Gain | R3K Gain |
CJREF | $3.90 | $3.66 | $0.00 | -6.2% | 2.0% |
GILD | $70.80 | $75.21 | $0.00 | 6.2% | 2.0% |
IPG | $22.80 | $22.86 | $0.00 | 0.3% | 2.0% |
KLAC | $102.03 | $104.87 | $0.00 | 2.8% | 2.0% |
TUP | $40.09 | $41.90 | $0.00 | 4.5% | 2.0% |
Totals | 1.5% | 2.0% |
IPG was also in the news last week, they bought a big chunk of ACXM. That would have been the stock to have bought on Monday (up from $30 last Friday to over $39 this Friday).
Have a great week everyone, super weather here in New England.
